What is a Live-in Caregiver?
Canada’s Live-In Caregiver Program (LCP) is for foreign nationals who wish to be employed by a Canadian citizen as a caretaker/nanny for their children or someone with disabilities in the home.
Who can request it?
- Those who have a valid medium- level proficiency in one or both languages.
- Those who are interested in working as a caregiver.
- Those who want to discover and live in Canada and become a permanent resident.

Requirements
What requirements are needed?
- Have a valid work permit, an extension of work permit or a work permit restoration.
- Have been working in any occupation that matches the NOC’s works.
- Have a minimum score of level 5 in the official French and English exams.
- Have a formal education at least in High School or Bachillerato.
- Have plans to live outside of the province of Quebec.
How to apply?
If you don’t already have an LCP work permit and would like to work as a caregiver in Canada, you must apply for a regular work permit. Found a caregiver who already has a work permit in the Live-in Caregiver Program and who is looking for a new employee. Have been approved for a Labour Market Impact Assessment that shows the caregiver has agreed to live in your home
Additional Information
The applicant must have at least 24 months of full-time work experience in Canada in the 36 months before you apply.
Accepted Languages Exams
English: CELPIP (Canadian English Language Proficiency Index Program). General IELTS (International English Language Testing System). PTE (Pearson Test of English).
French: TEF (Test d’évaluation du français) and TCF (Test de connaissance du Français pour le Canada).
General Requirements and process: What to do?
1.) Sufficient work experience
2.) Meet language level (CLB 5 in every skill).
3.) Meet education level
4.) Admissibility to Canada (Visa and Work Permit)
5.) Plan to live outside the province of Quebec
Permanent Residence:
1.) Submit a work permit application along with your permanent residence
visa application. If you meet the requirements, you will obtain
2.) A work visa that will allow you to work as a caregiver for any employer.
3.) After obtaining 12 months of qualifying experience, you will submit a test,
and the state will make a final decision on your permanent residence.


The Home Child Care Provider Pilot
is a 5-year pilot program that allows qualified caregivers and their family members to come to Canada with the goal of becoming permanent residents.
The Home Support Worker Pilot
is a 5-year pilot program that allows qualified caregivers and their family members to come to Canada with the goal of becoming permanent residents.

Education Evaluation
You must obtain an educational credential evaluation from an approved organization.
- You can validate a degree, diploma, or certificate.
- Choose an organization from those listed on the page.
- Submit documents.
- Review costs.
- Request the report: If your foreign credentials are equal to a completed post-secondary education credential of one year or higher, its finished.
- Time the evaluation will be administered (clarify that is for migratory purposes),
